OAXACAN WOODCARVINGS

Oaxacan
Woodcarvings

For 50 years artists in two Oaxacan valley villages have been carving these imaginative animals in fanciful poses, painted in bright colors. Most are carved from Copal, a wood with a lovely sweet odor whose resin has been burned as incense since ancient times.

Nuestra Tierra selects Oaxacanwoodcarvings that combine an imaginative pose with skillful carving and deft painting. Oaxacan woodcarvings from the best artists are sought-after by collectors who sometimes must wait months for a particular piece. The smaller pieces, however, are quite affordable. They all come to life with careful and creative painting that compliments the design.
